AOKIGAHARA – Silent Architectures / Photographic Research

Introduction:
A photographic exploration of the Aokigahara forest at the foot of Mount Fuji. Beyond the myth, this series documents the dense structure of the “Jukai” (Sea of Trees): moss, volcanic rock, and a root system that swallows time and sound. It is a study of silence, isolation, and the visual density of a place inextricably linked to human fates.

Concept:
This series serves as the visual foundation for an upcoming spatial installation. The photographs capture not just the physical landscape, but the psychological charge of the space. Light fractures through the dense canopy; orientation is lost. The images investigate the boundary between natural beauty and societal taboo, asking: How does a landscape hold memory?

Medium: Digital Photography, Japan

Year: 2025 – ongoing (Research Phase)
